What We Do
Founded in 2015, the Boston Art Song Society is a musician-run performing organization that promotes collaboration between pianists and singers, performers and audience members, and the interplay of poetry and music in the art form. Through high-level collaborations between emerging artists, we aim to expand the study, performance, and audience experience of art song in Boston.
Secondly, the Boston Art Song Society’s activities are celebrations; we are dedicated to creating an environment where different cultures and languages can come to life. To this end, we raise the text and poetry of a song, along with the context in which it was written, to the same level of importance as the music it is set to. Our concerts provide a new window into the expressive power of poetry—celebrating the diverse languages and cultures that have enriched the art song genre.
Finally, we are committed to building community with our audiences, both through our intimate, salon-style concert experiences, and through individual interaction before and after our performances. We believe in this genre as a viable part of Boston’s professional music scene, and a pathway for creating a dynamic community of artists and supporters.
